Starting from January 2027
What if you could stitch your memories instead of simply writing them down?
A little puppy to remember the day you adopted your dog. Three tiny icons to capture a week filled with your child’s 18th birthday, a picnic with friends, and an afternoon in the garden. A flower, a cup of coffee, a favorite word, or even a tiny symbol that means something only to you.
Welcome to Stitch Your Year, a year-long hand embroidery and journaling project where the little moments of your life become a beautiful, one-of-a-kind fabric book.
✨ How does it work?
Each month, you’ll work on a dedicated fabric page, adding small embroidered elements that capture your days or weeks.
You can stitch one little element every day or a few elements at the end of each week. There’s no strict schedule, no pressure to catch up, and no need to make every stitch perfect. This is your journal, your story, and your pace.
Over 12 months, your individual pages will come together to create a handmade book, which will be a visual record of your year, told through thread, color, and the moments that mattered to you.
Imagine opening that book years from now and remembering not just the big milestones, but all those little things that made your year yours!
✨ What can you stitch?
Absolutely anything that represents your day or week!
- Life’s milestones: Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, new jobs, graduations, and new beginnings.
- Everyday joys: Your morning coffee, a good book, a favorite meal, a walk in the park, or a cozy evening at home.
- People and pets: Tiny faces, paw prints, flowers gifted by someone special, or your pet’s name.
- Adventures and experiences: Picnics, holidays, road trips, concerts, gardening, and time spent with loved ones.
- Your inner world: A meaningful word, a little heart, a symbol of how you felt, or something that helped you through a difficult week.
I have shared icon ideas with my patrons. You too can get it here: Buy icon collection. But, you are never limited to my suggestions. Draw your own little pictures, stitch words or initials, use simple symbols, or create tiny illustrations that tell your story.
Your journal doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. That’s what makes it special.
✨ New to embroidery? You’re absolutely welcome!
You don’t need to be an experienced embroiderer to join this project. In fact, this is a lovely way to learn!
If you can stitch a simple puppy outline and add its name underneath, you can start documenting your memories. If drawing isn’t your thing, choose a simple icon, trace an idea, or stitch a word instead.
We’ll focus on a few versatile basic stitches:
- Back Stitch for outlines, lettering, and little details.
- Stem Stitch for curved lines, stems, and flowing shapes.
- Running Stitch for simple lines, borders, and decorative details.
- Satin Stitch for filling in small shapes with color.
- French Knots for tiny flowers, eyes, dots, and textured details.

You can keep your designs wonderfully simple or experiment with new stitches as your confidence grows. There is no need to master every stitch before you begin.
✨ Make it your own
Choose colors that feel right to you!
Use realistic colors for the things you’re stitching, embrace the changing shades of the seasons, create a coordinated color palette for each month, or let your imagination run wild.
You can fill the empty spaces with tiny flowers, leaves, stars, dots, borders, or other decorative elements. Leave some breathing room or turn your page into a delightful little tapestry of memories.
There are no rules about how your page should look. Let it evolve naturally as your month unfolds.
✨ Let’s stitch together!
I’ll be taking part in this project right alongside you, stitching my own journal and sharing my pages for inspiration.
I’ll also try to share short videos of my stitching process, so you can see how these little elements come together and find ideas for your own pages.
And when you’d like to share your work, you’re welcome to post photos of your journal pages here in the comments section! I’d love for this to become a space where we can inspire one another, celebrate our progress, and see how differently we each capture our lives through embroidery.
✨ Twelve months. Twelve fabric pages. A whole year of memories.
By the end of the project, you’ll have more than a collection of embroidery samples. You’ll have a handmade keepsake filled with the people, places, experiences, ordinary days, and little joys that made up your year.
Bring your needle, some thread, and a little piece of your everyday life.
Let’s slow down, notice the little things, and stitch a year we’ll be happy to look back on.
