Thorn Stitch

About the Thorn Stitch

The Thorn Stitch is a variation showing how the stitches can be stitched in different patterns to anchor the laid thread. This stitch uses half Herringbone Stitches to pin down the thread to the fabric, giving it an attractive look. The structure looks like a stem of thorns, explaining the name.

How to do the Thorn Stitch

Fig 1: Start by bringing out a thread (brown) for laying from one end of the stitch line. Keep it open.Fig 2: Bring out the needle with another colored thread. Go across the laid thread and pluck a small portion of fabric under that thread, as shown.
Fig 3: Pull the needle out and pass the needle in through the fabric, as shown. Keep up with this procedure and make more such stitches at different distances to pin down the laid thread.Fig 4: As you reach the end of the line, take the laid thread, pass it through the fabric, and end the stitch.
Fig 5: A finished row of the Thorn Stitch looks like this.
