Women.Life.Freedom

As far as we could tell, the face of the revolution was a sea of embroidering women, patiently waiting the resignation of their repressive governor.
Diana Denham

This is a symbolic pattern that stands in solidarity with the women of Iran and of other places who are facing the same kind of oppression and dehumanized treatment.

Recently, a reader from Iran responded to our newsletter stating that they were not allowed to contact their friends and that their government is forcing women and their lives. It sounded like a cry for help. I could not do much directly for her, but art is a powerful medium to get the message across and start a revolution.

Join me in stitching this pattern and share it here or on your social media pages. Stand in solidarity with Homa, the woman who wrote to me.

Let’s make something beautiful today.

Sarah, you have such a good heart! This is what makes your website so special, not only are you a fabulous resource for learning, but you are able to make embroidery a power for good. This is not the first time that you’ve encouraged embroiderers in support of our fellow humans and, once again, I am humbled and inspired by your compassion. Thank you!

PERIOD POVERTY! WHERE IS THE BUILDING OF SELF-ESTEEM?
    YES! MY HEART BLEEDS!
    THESE ARE GLOBAL ISSUES!
MY FAITH IS STRONG, NOW THAT THESE ISSUES THAT ARE AS OLD AS TIME ARE “OUT IN THE OPEN” – PEOPLE “KNOW” THERE IS NO SHAME IN MENSTRUATION!
JUST AS THERE IS NO SHAME IN “OTHER BODILY PROCESSES THAT EXIT OUR BODIES!”
MENSTRUATION IS NECESSARY FOR LIFE CONTINUING–PERIOD!

      Dear Pastor Glo,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us. I could feel how passionately you feel about the subject of periods. Unfortunately, even now, ignorance precedes many issues that must be addressed. I hope that these issues will be brought to light and discussion through art like hand embroidery. I wish to create something that can highlight ‘period poverty.’

      Love,
      Sarah
