Double Cross Stitch is also known as
Leviathan stitch, Smyrna cross stitch [EN], Punto de cruz doble [ES], Point croix double [FR], Doppelter Kreuzstich [DE], Punto croce doppio [IT], dobbelt korssting [NO].
How to do the Double Cross Stitch
Double cross stitches are generally used as filler stitches. It is very easy to make with one cross stitch done diagonally over the other. It is an advantage to know the Cross Stitch before you begin with this stitch. I will work between two stitch lines to illustrate this lesson.
Fig 1: Make a Cross Stitch between A,B,C,D. We continue to make another cross over this one. So, bring the needle out through E. | Fig 2: Now, take the needle in through F, to bring it out through G, as illustrated. |
Fig 3: Finish the stitch to get a star-like shape. | Fig 4: Repeat the process to make a series of stars like this. Make sure to follow the same sequence for each star, to maintain uniformity. |
